SOCRATES
MAN OF
ATHENS—MAN OF GREECE
MAN
OF THE WORLD!
Socrates,
(470-399 BC) was perhaps the most original, influential, and
controversial figures in the history of Greek thought. Philosophy
before him was “pre-Socratic”; he was the “hinge” or the orientation
point, for most subsequent thinkers and the direct inspiration of
Plato. Why Socrates as my mentor?? Daniel Boorstin in his book
THE SEEKERS said, “Socrates brought the search for meaning down
from heaven to earth.” I, Jack Simpson, would have been a fool not
to take advantage of that.

In
the
SOCRATES 'N SUITS
trilogy, BOOKS
I & II
tells the story of a fighter pilot, Jack "Suitcase" (Suits) Simpson,
meeting and then flying the wing of the great Greek philosopher thru
combat, testing the world's first MACH 1 supersonic fighter and
experimentally testing the world's first MACH 2 fighter. It was
Socrates' 2500 years of intellectual experience that guided Jack
thru the rough 5 years of testing these USAF's advanced
state-of-the-art aircraft.
The story of
BOOK III brings
the two men back together again when Jack, fired from an aerospace
company for being too much of a maverick, started his own business
as a $300 a month janitor. Socrates guided him through the myriad of
stumbling blocks, failures, and recoveries until one day Jack said,
"Gee, Socs, after 40 years, it looks like I'm an overnight success.
